NUI Maynooth to Take on Holders Queens University in Purcell Shield Final

In the Purcell Shield, NUI Maynooth got the better of DCU on a scoreline of 0-14 to 1-6. The Kildare college, for whom Louise Walsh and Sinead McHugh scored five points each, always had the upper hand, leading 0-5 to 0-2 at the interval.
DCU did give themselves a fighting chance when Siobhan Falvey goaled for them in the 40th however, putting just a point between the sides, but ultimately Maynooth had the greater staying power, despite sub Clodagh Farrell scoring two points for DCU.
In the final, Maynooth will play Queen’s University, Belfast, 4-9 to 1-7 victors over Trinity College, Dublin. Colette McSorely scored three goals for Queen’s, with Shauna Jordan getting the other.
