WEEKEND CAMOGIE WRAP-UP

Cork qualified for the semi-finals of the National Camogie League defeating Tipperary 0-12 to 1-7 at CIT. Sharpshooter Claire Grogan and Jill Horan caused the Cork rearguard numerous problems in the first half with Grogan hitting 0-3, Horan 0-1 and a goal from Noreen Walsh giving them a comfortable five point half-time lead. Rachel Moloney, Elaine O’Riordan and Katriona Mackey hit a point a piece to keep the Rebels within touching distance.

However, in the second half it was all Cork as All-Star attacker Rachel Moloney led the way firing four superb points. Tipperary could only register two points courtesy of Grogan and Mairead Luttrell with the Cork defence tightening up considerably. Julia White tacked on three to push the Rebels ahead with Sile Burns and Lucy Hawkes adding a point each to send Cork on their way.

Meanwhile, Galway defeated Dublin 3-12 to 0-11 at Parnell Park on Sunday afternoon. The Blues were trailing by five points with two minutes remaining before Veronica Curtin struck the back of the net to finish off the spirited challenge of a young Dublin side. Aisling Connolly was superb for the Westerners hitting 1-7 while Curtin and Emma Kilkelly were also on target.

Wexford continued their winning streak defeating Clare 3-15 to 0-7 at Clarecastle. Clare had no response to a powerful Wexford attack with captain Una Leacy (1-4), Aine Codd and Ursula Jacob the chief scorers.
