Player Pathway

Long Term Player Development Model

Welcome to the ‘Player Pathway’ model. It highlights the skills and characteristics that Camogie players can expect at each stage of their development.

The following booklet documents how this is signposted from a child’s early years right through to retirement. It then also suggests ways for players to make the transition into other non-playing but equally important roles at club level. Maximising participation and lifelong involvement in Camogie are fundamental aspects of our sport.

The underpinning philosophy of the Player Development Model is to support players to reach their full potential through coaching, training and developing their athletic and personal capacities as they grow though sport. Camogie is a highly skilful and speedy sport. Age appropriate and developmentally appropriate learning of Camogie is essential
to enhance all players’ experience and enjoyment of playing it.

The Player Development Model has emerged from a wide ranging process of consultation and debate involving Camogie players, coaches, administrators and Coaching Ireland.
