LAURA TWOMEY is relishing being back in the fold with Dublin, especially as she gets to line out with her sister Miriam, who she has to collect from the airport every Friday.

Twomey’s return from injury is a massive boost to David Herity, who has had to try build on last year’s memorable march to the Liberty Insurance All-Ireland Senior Camogie Championship Semi-Finals without the likes of current All-Star Aisling Maher, All-Star nominee Eva Marie Elliott and the experienced Sarah O’Donovan.

The Naomh Mearnóg defender dislocated her knee within a week of being named joint-captain by Herity last year and missed the entire season.

The 27-year-old made her debut for the Dubs 11 years ago against Kilkenny but retains all her enthusiasm.

“Camogie is such a massive part of my life, so I missed it greatly, especially when it was taken away from me so suddenly like that “ says Twomey in The Evening Herald. “I’m just happy to be back on the pitch.”

Dublin got their campaign off to the perfect start with a 3-14 to 3-9 victory over Offaly but face the daunting task of taking on All-Ireland champions Cork in Páirc Uí Rinn on Sunday (2.30pm).

As usual, Twomey will kick off the weekend on chauffeuring duties for her younger sibling and Dublin teammate. Miriam comes home for training or matches each Friday from Edinburgh, where she is studying.

“This is a tough part of the year for her because she is on placement. She’ll be finished in October, when she’ll be a fully qualified radiographer.

“It’s her second year in a row commuting back and forth from Edinburgh. It shows great commitment.

“Hopefully she’ll be able to get a few days off here and there over the summer to have that extra bit of rest.”
